Congratulations! You have just made the most important decision of your life, and did you know… not only will fellow Christians want to share in the celebration of this great victory, but even the angels in heaven will want to rejoice with you.

“Suppose one of you has a hundred sheep and loses one of them. Does he not leave the ninety-nine in the open country and go after the lost sheep until he finds it? And when he finds it, he joyfully puts it on his shoulders and goes home. Then he calls his friends and neighbors together and says, ‘Rejoice with me; I have found my lost sheep.’ I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent.” Luke 15:4-7(NIV) ​

Communicate with God the Father

Do you know that God wants to hear from you? Just like any other relationship, your relationship with God takes interaction and communication regularly. Pray throughout the day whenever you think about it, but also set aside a special time for just you two. Just talk to Him about the things on your mind and He will hear you and communicate back with you!

How will He communicate with you?

God’s Word is food for our spirit as well as instructions for life. Now that we are children of the King, we need to learn what that means and what it entails. The Bible tells us that we are heirs with Jesus – we have been “born” into the family of God! This amazing fact and many more you will read about in His Word.The Bible addresses many things you are feeling and going through in your own life as well, directly and indirectly. As you pray and spend time with God, He will guide you toward passages that will comfort you and introduce you to His peace – to replace all of your fear and worry.

 

 

 

Find a Bible-believing church

It is absolutely vital for you to find a church that believes, follows and teaches directly from the Bible. You will experience great growth as a Christian as you fellowship with other believers. Eventually you will want to obey the Lord, join a church – and begin to tithe and serve as an active member. The most important thing to remember is to take everything back to God’s Word. What other Christians say – even pastors and teachers in the church – should check out with God’s Word! You can’t go wrong if you are studying and learning the Bible on your own, as well as with other believers in bible study.

 

 

Remember, It's a journey

​You will not become the world’s first perfect sinless human being when you get saved. In a letter written to Christians, John says this:

 

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. (1 John 1:9)

This is not a license to sin, but an amazing promise that as God’s children He will forgive us of our sins when we make mistakes. When you accepted Jesus as your Savior and joined the family of God you were transformed from a place of condemnation – deserving of death – to the safety of the righteousness that is ONLY in Jesus Christ! The Bible says in Romans 8:1:

 

There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

And as you walk in the Spirit (sincerely desire the things of God and earnestly try to obey His will) you will not fulfill the lusts of the flesh (desire to do the things that are against God and His Word). This is by no means an exhaustive list of the things of God. It is a solid step in the right direction. Never forget that the moment you accepted Christ, God sealed you with His Holy Spirit. The Spirit will lead you in all truth and righteousness (John 14:26). What you need to do is listen. This requires you to surrender all areas of your life to God and His will.

 

Some other suggestions:

​1. Enjoy God and make the decision to grow in Him.

 

2. Make a decision to believe EVERY word in the Bible, not just the things that sound good to you.                   

​3. Find a prayer partner to pray with. Not only will this help your prayer life, but it will also give you someone to share with in your Christian walk.                                                                                                                                                                                                                   

4. Forgive people that have done you wrong. The Bible says “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new” (2 Corinthians 5:17). Let those old things pass away and you will feel the burden slide away. If Jesus has forgiven you for your sin against Him – your disobedience – shouldn't you forgive others for where they have done you wrong? (See Matthew 18:21-35)

5. Surround yourself with people and things that build on your new Christian walk – not take you back to where you were. This may result in removing some things from your life in certain ways, but it is more than worth it to be in God’s will and begin your journey to what His purpose is for your life!​​
